Estimate Footprint with Secondary data
If you don’t have a possibility to collect PCF data from your suppliers in ChainTraced, there are several methods to assign secondary data, or data received from your suppliers by email or from their webpage to your purchased product.
Option 1 Create Request to a Not connected supplier
This workflow follows the same flow as when you request data from a connected supplier, but in this case, you request data from a counterparty that is not connected, and you respond to the request yourself.
This has several advantages
-
"Correct" workflow from the start (first part of workflow).
-
Traceability in inbound to who did what and when.
-
Easy to connect supplier later and switch to primary data.
-
Can manage multiple suppliers on one product.
-
Can be used if a request is created but the supplier does not respond.
Workflow
-
Setup purchased products with suppliers assigned to the product as above. In this case, you can use a counterparty that is not connected.
-
Create a request to the supplier as above.
-
Go to Part Approval-Inbound and open the request.
-
Now you can either fill in the PCF data in the request or assign a dataset to the request.
-
Review the result and approve the request.
A dataset can be created for secondary data and be assigned to requests. This is recommended if the same secondary data shall be used for several products and requests.
Option 2 Assign PCF data directly to the purchased product.
If you don’t want to create requests and respond to them yourself, you can open the purchased product and go to the Emissions tab. Here you can assign PCF data directly on the product, either manually or by assigning a dataset that you have prepared.
Datasets are useful if you want to assign the same data to several products. Datasets can also be assigned in bulk to many products.
This method is easier and recommended if you plan to use only secondary emissions and you only need to manage one supplier for each product.
It will not give you less traceability to which supplier the product is related to, and if you want to include the supplier at a later stage, you need adapt to a new way of working as above. It can also be confusing if you have both connected suppliers who report to you with requests and secondary data in a mix since this would require two different approaches.
