Transport emissions are the emissions of moving a purchased product from the supplier to you. ChainTraced adds them per supplier from a transport dataset whose route matches the supplier's country and yours. Once the dataset exists nothing is linked by hand: the matching is automatic and the result is part of the product's PCF.

Create a transport dataset
Where: Standards > Emission Datasets, Create new Dataset.
-
Under Select a Dataset type, choose Transport.
-
In Transport route, pick From location and To destination. Each end is a Country or area or a wider Region; the map shows the route. A country matches only itself, a region matches every country in it.
-
Enter the Title, then the dataset details and the emissions per kg of transported goods, as for any other dataset; see General Product Carbon Footprint manual.
-
Click Create draft and publish from the dataset page, or Create & publish. Only published datasets are matched.
The route cannot be changed once the dataset is created. For another route, Duplicate the dataset or create a new one. To cover suppliers in several countries with one dataset, use a region as the From location.
How a dataset is matched to a supplier
For every supplier of a purchased product, ChainTraced looks at your published transport datasets and keeps those whose route fits.

|---|---|
|
From location |
It is the supplier's country, or a region that contains it. |
|
To destination |
It is your company's country, or a region that contains it. |
When several datasets fit, the most precise route wins: a country beats a region, and a smaller region beats a larger one. That dataset provides the supplier's transport emissions. Matches are recalculated when you publish a transport dataset and when you save a product's suppliers. A transport dataset cannot be attached to a product directly; this matching is the only way it is used.

Where: the purchased product, tab Emission data, sub-tab Link emissions. The Supplier PCFs table has the column Transport emissions.
-
Transport emissions shows the matched dataset's emissions per kg for each supplier, or a dash when no route fits. Click the value to open Matching Transport Emission Datasets.
-
The dialog lists every fitting dataset with From, To, Emissions and Match precision. 100% means the route runs from the supplier's country to yours; a lower value means one or both ends are a region, and larger regions give lower precision. The dataset in use is shown in bold with a check mark.
-
Contribution, the highlighted column, is the supplier's PCF plus the transport emissions, weighted by the Purchase share; the row under the table sums it as Supplier emissions per kg of product. A warning next to a value means the PCF it is calculated from has expired. Both enter the product's upstream emissions and, through the bill of material, every product it is part of.
When you publish a new version of a transport dataset, Review & publish counts the products that will change through transport matching, and they are updated on publish. A supplier without a country never matches; add the country on the counterparty.
