Add upstream emissions with Dataset

Use this checklist when the upstream emissions of your raw materials come from your own figures or secondary data, not from suppliers reporting in ChainTraced. Everything is done with emission datasets: one set for your own operations, one per raw material type. The detailed steps are in the General Product Carbon Footprint manual; this page puts them in order.

Purchased products for the raw materials, with no product suppliers. A purchased product with suppliers takes its emissions from the suppliers' PCFs instead of a dataset.

Steps

  1. Create a dataset for your own operations. Under Standards > Emission Datasets, Create new Dataset of type Process, fill in the details and emissions, and publish it. One per plant, product family or route, as your data allows.

  2. Create one dataset per raw material type the same way, with the upstream figure per kg and, when it is secondary data, Is secondary data and the Secondary emission source.

  3. Attach the process dataset to the manufactured products. On each product: Emission data tab, Link emissions, Pick a dataset to add under Process Emission Dataset, then save. For many products at once: filter the product list on Product Type: Manufactured, tick the rows, Edit > Assign dataset.

  4. Attach the raw material datasets to the purchased products in the same place. The dataset picker is only shown on a purchased product without suppliers; with suppliers, the tab lists their PCFs instead. Bulk assignment works here too, one raw material type at a time.

  5. Check the result. On a manufactured product, Emissions overview should show Complete . Needs data names what is missing, for example a component in the bill of material without emissions.

  6. Submit to customers. Open the requests under Product Transactions > Customer and Submit, or tick many and use Edit > Submit. The transactions carry the product's current PCF, so there is nothing to refresh first.

When a figure changes, publish a new version of the dataset. Every product using it, and every open PCF transaction of those products, follows automatically.
