Respond to a Product Carbon Footprint request

This guide is for suppliers. A customer has asked for the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of one of your products, and the request has arrived as a product transaction of the type Environmental Declaration. You answer it by linking your product, making sure the product has a PCF, and submitting.

Where: Product Transactions > Customer. Click in Requested in the Quickview to see the requests waiting for you, then Open.

Steps

  1. Link your product. If the request shows Your product number is not set, choose Choose existing product from list to pick one of your products, or Import as new product from customer to create it from the customer's product number and description. ChainTraced remembers the pair, so the next request for the same product is linked on arrival.

  2. Check the Emission Dataset section. When the linked product has a complete PCF, the section is filled from it at once and marked Added from linked product: emissions Per unit, Per kg and Per delivery, the Primary data share, the Core emissions and the Emissions breakdown per linked dataset. It follows the product: a change on the product or its datasets is carried over until you submit, and the values cannot be edited on the transaction.

  3. Give the product a PCF if the section is empty. Open the product, tab Emission data. Under Link emissions, add a process dataset and make sure the bill of material has emissions, or enter the figure under Manual emissions. Save; the PCF Status should read Complete . The transaction picks the PCF up on its own. Setting up datasets is described in the General Product Carbon Footprint manual.

  4. Add attachments if the customer expects a report or a verification statement: drag the files into Shared attachments. Files under Private attachments stay within your company.

  5. Submit. The Submit button appears once the section holds emission data. The arrow next to it offers Submit with Email, which also emails the recipients on the transaction. To answer many requests at once, tick them in the list and choose Edit > Submit.

No product PCF, one-off answer: with your product linked but no PCF on it, click Add Emission Dataset and then Edit in the section header. Enter Emissions per kg and Primary data share; tick Uses secondary data and name the Secondary emission source where it applies; fill in Reporting period, Expiry date, Standard used, Location and, if you have it, the Electricity mix. Per unit and per delivery are calculated from these values. Click Done editing and save the transaction. Prefer the product PCF: it answers every future request for the same product without extra work.
